A Letter to my Constituents to Commemorate my 2nd Year in Office (Posted: 22.06.09)

Dear Constituents,

The journey so far has been wonderful and I feel honoured serving you all. June 5th made it 2 years since you called me to serve you and a look at this website tells the story so far. The challenges ahead are enormous but I'm confident that as I double my effort at attracting dividends of democracy to our constituency, a lot will be achieved in this second half of my tenure.

However, there has arisen an issue I need to properly inform you of about: A few weeks back, one of our constituents by name Mr. Ime Mbatessien granted an interview in a newspaper disparaging our performing Governor. In his own words he made several false allegations against the Governor and this Government. It is sad that we as a people by implication of where he comes from, have been tainted by this rash and totally unnecessary act of one of us.

I hereby boldly state that all the issues raised in that interview were false and done with ill intentions prompted by elements of the previous administration who have never seen any good project done by this administration.

Constructive criticism is welcomed but outright fabrication and distortion of facts geared towards misinforming the public must be condemned in its totality.

In today's Akwa Ibom, all you need is to drive round the state and you will see, feel and touch the giant developmental strides of this government so it's sad when certain elements rather than encourage and chip in good advice, decide to heap blames and spread falsehoods.

I therefore on our collective mandate, condemn the actions of Mr Ime Mbatessien and his co-travellers while affirming the confidence of all of us in Etinan State constituency in Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio's administration and do urge him to continue with the good work he is doing.

Again, I assure you of my unflinching commitment to serve you and make our constituency a much better place.

Your Humble Servant,
Hon. Samuel Ikon
