It has been a while... (Posted: 20.07.09)

Dear Constituents,

I have found the recess still a very busy time. My hopes of finding time to be with my family, especially my newborn son, is thinning out as events continue to press against any free time for me. However, it is always gladdening knowing that for every minute I lose of my personal comfort in your service, value is added to a life or two for a better tomorrow.

A few events have taken place which i feel you should hear of:

On thursday, 9th July, 2009, the stakeholders of Iman Ibom, led by our Local government Chairman, paid a courtesy visit on the state Governor. We ceased the opportunity to thank and congratulate the Governor on his developmental strides so far, especially on strategic appointments given to Etinan LGA indigenes such as the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the acting Vice Chancellor of the State University whose confirmation His Excellency assured us of at that visit, the Chairmanship of two state boards, several memberships of boards, personal staff, etc.

The meeting was used to inform the Governor of the problems and needs of our Local Government Area for which urgent- and medium-term government attention was required. In his response, His Excellency took note of those problems and also made commitments to resolve those problems. Overall, it was a good outing with lots of projects in our kitty for the good of our people.

Just last saturday (18th of July, 2009), our paramount ruler and custodian of our traditional institution, celebrated his 7th year on the throne. He used the occassion to honour deserving sons and daughters of his domain and I was amongst the honourees. Due to my deep beliefs which you may not agree with, I opted for a certificate of recognition for services rendered to our people, as opposed to a chieftaincy title.

May I use this medium to once again congratulate our royal father who is currently also the chairman of our states council of chiefs, on his 7th year on the throne and acknowledge that his reign has been characterised by peace, harmony and a commitment to the spiritual and physical progress of our people. May his reign be long.

July 31st - August 1st, 2009: I will be in Los Angeles, USA to meet with Etinan Indigenes in the area. Those interested in meeting your humble representative can reach out through my e-mail (princeikon002@yahoo.com) and/or thro Tony Ikon.

August 2nd - August 4th, 2009: I will be in Oklahoma City, USA to rub minds and brief you on our journey so far. Patrick Utin will fix this meeting.

August 14th - 16th, 2009: I will be attending the Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria (USA), Inc.'s convention in Detroit, Michigan and will be glad to meet with all of our brothers and sisters attending as this will afford us an opportunity to rub minds on issues affecting our people.

September 18th - September 20th, 2009: I am happy to invite Etinan LGA indigenes in the London area to meet with me as I visit London to attend the Inauguration/Fundraiser of the Akwa Ibom Women League at Selby centre on Selby road, London. A phone number to reach me while in London, will be posted at about that time. Having said that, further enquiries/correspondence with interested indigenes can continue via my website and e-mail address (princeikon002@yahoo.com).

I assure you all of my continuous resolve to represent you with the best standards to meet your expectations and attract the much needed development to our constituency.

Thank you and God bless us all.

In your service,
Hon. Samuel Ikon

P.S.: This letter is in continuation of Hon. Ikon's avowed commitment to constructively engage the diaspora in the overall development of his constituency, drawing from their deep reservoir of experience and contacts to compliment the efforts of the state government in delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents.
