Post Obong Akpan Isemin's Funeral Updates... (Posted: 31.08.09)
Dear Constituents,
My last letter dwelt on the burial of our icon and statesman, Obong Akpan Isemin, the first civilian Governor of our state. While thanking all who attended, may I again express my gratitude to Governor Godswill Akpabio for his show of love and celebration of the life and times of our late sage.
While in the U.S., I spoke to our brothers and sisters in 7-states to intimate them of our efforts back home.
I, along with my colleagues, attended a very educative training workshop at the University of Tennessee in Chatanooga. The trip included seperate sessions at Nashville (the State Capital), with the speaker of their house of representative, and their deputy Governor. Check out photos taken at the workshop here.
We arrived Detroit straight from Tennessee for the AKISAN convention. I must commend the organizers for a wonderful convention. I also commend our young ones and particularly their parents who have kept them abreast with our ways of life and culture thus their wonderful cultural performances. At the convention, I held a town hall meeting with Etinan indigenes in the diaspora and everyone was able to ask questions, and get straight and honest answers. I took a few photos. Check them out. At this point, I wish to thank Ms. Linda Umoh for providing us such a beautiful venue at no cost. To those who attended, and others whom I spoke to individually, I say thank you for your interest and time.
The meeting with Mr. Mazonne holds a lot of hope for the development of Baseball in our state. I was also able to, through a round of meetings with Mr. Victor Mbaba, President of Africa's Children's Fund, set in motion the process of getting in a shippment of needed textbooks for our school children. I also have a few photos taken at that meeting.
Finally, I strongly believe that the trip led to a better understanding of the programs of this administration by those I met with, while opening up windows of opportunity for direct foreign investment in our constituency.
I assure you of my unflinching commitment to serve you all with all my strength. I have this year submitted a list of 12 projects for this year's constituency projects and God willing, they will all pass so watch out for the list soon and see whether your village or community has been captured.
Thank you and God bless.
In your service,
Hon. Samuel Ikon
